• Former Muvhango actor Lesley Musina says Vhembe people will never forget how Senzo Mchunu helped bring water to Musina.

Former Muvhango actor Lesley Musina has come out strongly in support of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu as pressure grows over allegations linked to the Political Killings Task Team.

Musina praised Mchunu for helping bring water to communities in Vhembe when he was Minister of Water and Sanitation.

He spoke during a national prayer gathering for Mchunu held at Christ Worship House in Thohoyandou on Saturday night.

Mchunu is accused of disbanding the Political Killings Task Team on 31 December 2024 without informing President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The claims are now part of the Madlanga Commission investigations.

But Musina said the allegations should not erase the work Mchunu has done for struggling communities.

“We had no water at all as people of Vhembe but Mchunu came as our saviour to bring water to our communities,” said Musina.

“This is something that we will never forget. That is why we are here tonight to pray for him because the allegations against him have not yet been proven at the Madlanga Commission.”

In March 2024, Mchunu signed an agreement with Zimbabwe’s Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, Dr Anxious Jongwe Masuka.

The deal allows Zimbabwe to supply treated water from Beitbridge to Musina in Limpopo.

Under the agreement, Zimbabwe will supply 15 million cubic metres of treated water every year to help ease water shortages in the area.

The project was introduced as a medium term solution after years of protests over water shortages in Musina and surrounding communities.

Pastor Mpho Sharon Ramphago from Christian Worship Centre at Mamaila Kolobetona in Limpopo also defended Mchunu during the prayer gathering.

She said some people were using propaganda to attack both Ramaphosa and Mchunu without proof.

Ramphago said they were praying for the Madlanga Commission to do its work without interference or intimidation.
