Matt Walsh: King of the Dunning-Kruger Effect

Matt Walsh is someone whom I’ve written about a few times, and when I do discuss him, it’s usually down to something ignorant he has said. Whether it’s about trans/LGBT people or whatever else, he is someone who is deeply steeped in ignorance in a rather frustrating way. As I was doing some research for another piece on a different subject, I came across a video of Matt from last year in which he discussed Haiti, and it was very telling to say the least.

Some background on this discussion, though, the question of Haiti and Haitian immigrants specifically was a very hot topic in the lead-up to the 2024 US election. The right were constantly fearmongering about Haiti in some really bizarre, if not deeply racist ways, perhaps most notably when Donald Trump claimed that Haitian immigrants were eating people’s pets. This point turned out to be a complete lie, but it didn’t stop people on the right from uncritically going along with it as though it were true.

When it comes to Matt Walsh’s thoughts on this, he had a number of very questionable comments to make. He appeared in a discussion on the show Breaking Points with Ryan Grim, where they discussed the issue of Haiti, and…
