Stellar Examples of Letters Supporting Libraries and Diverse Books: Book Censorship News, May 22, 2026

I’ve been on a lengthy search for examples of groups connected to libraries–but not from within the libraries themselves–that are speaking out against the national book banning bill, House Resolution 7661. It’s been a hope I’d stumble upon a letter published in a local paper or even on social media by a library board of directors, a Friends of the library group, or a library Foundation. While HR 7661 would impact public schools and not public libraries, it is a censorship bill that would have direct and immediate impacts on public libraries, too–not to mention that libraries serving the dual role of public and school library would be affected.
