We’ve heard and talked a lot about antisemitism in the last couple of years, specifically since Israel’s most recent assault on the Palestinians of Gaza began in the wake of October 7th. Unfortunately, what we’ve heard and what we’ve been told about this has been complete nonsense and doesn’t get to the heart of why we might be seeing an uptick in antisemitism in society.
If you pay any attention to what the mainstream media tells you about antisemitism, they will tell you that the number of pro-Palestine marches we’ve seen in the last couple of years has been the main driving force of this antisemitism, and the explosion of popular support for the Palestinian cause has been a catalyst for this. I don’t particularly like this analysis, not just because it isn’t true but also because it isn’t getting to the heart of what is actually going on here.
The marches we’ve seen and the popular support for the Palestinian cause in the last few years is not down to some massive Jew-hate scourge that has been festering across the West; it is about the humanity of seeing horrific suffering inflicted on an innocent population by an occupying power. We need only turn on our phones to see the most horrific images coming out of Gaza, images which are enough to make…
