South African Grammy-winning superstar Tyla has reached another exciting milestone in her career, and this time it is taking her straight into the world of Disney and Pixar.

The internationally acclaimed singer is officially joining the Disney family after landing a voice role in the upcoming animated film Toy Story 5. Tyla will voice a brand-new character named Inflatable Flamingo for the Sub-Saharan African release of the highly anticipated movie.

Fans across South Africa will be able to watch the film when it arrives in cinemas on Friday, 19 June 2026.

The latest installment of the beloved Toy Story franchise introduces a modern challenge for Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and the rest of the toys. In Toy Story 5, the classic toys must face their biggest rival yet — technology.

The story follows 8-year-old Bonnie, who becomes fascinated by a smart kiddie tablet called “Lilypad.” Jessie, now the leader of Bonnie’s room, and Buzz Lightyear find themselves fighting to stay relevant as Bonnie spends more and more time with the electronic device. The film explores how technology has changed childhood and the growing popularity of electronic toys among young children.

Director Andrew Stanton described the movie as “toy meets tech.” The story will introduce the electronic tablet Lily Pad, a character that captures Bonnie’s attention and leaves the traditional toys feeling forgotten. Jessie struggles to keep the toy collection united as they try to navigate a world where screens seem more exciting than playtime.

For Tyla, becoming part of the iconic franchise is a dream come true.

Speaking about the opportunity, she shared her excitement, saying, “When I was asked to join the production Toy Story 5, I was so excited. This is like the first time I was on the managers every day. What’s happening on Toy Story? I just couldn’t believe that the offer was even presented to me. It’s like literally Toy Story, I’m with Woody and Buzz Lightyear.”

The singer also revealed how much the franchise means to her and her family.

“I just grew up watching Toy Story, it’s such a big movie in my family. My parents love it, my whole family love it. The fact that now we get to watch it with my little voice in it is insane.”

According to Good Things Guy, the opportunity is much more than a career achievement for the singer. It is also a special childhood dream becoming reality.

Reflecting on the moment, Tyla said, “Toy Story has been such a special part of my childhood, so being part of this film is a full-circle moment for me. I’m incredibly excited for audiences to experience it, and it means so much to know that African viewers will hear an African voice bringing one of these beloved characters to life.”

With her voice set to appear alongside some of animation’s most beloved characters, Tyla is adding another impressive achievement to her growing list of international successes.
