How Communities Thrive When We Look Beyond Ourselves

Humility is characterized by an accurate view of oneself, while remaining open to learning and appreciating others' contributions (Tangney, 2000; Worthington, 2007). While it begins as an internal orientation, humility becomes most salient through our daily actions. Lately, I've been contemplating the connection between humility and community, and have concluded that one of the clearest expressions of humility is choosing to contribute to something larger than ourselves.
