When I was younger, I thought people with high IQs were the smartest. They solved problems fast, remembered everything, and always seemed right. I believed that being “book smart” was all anyone needed to succeed. But as I got older, I noticed something different. The people who did really well in life were not always the ones with the highest IQ. They were the ones who understood people, stayed calm when things went wrong, and made others feel heard. That’s when I learned about something called EQ, emotional intelligence.
IQ, or Intelligence Quotient, is how smart we are with facts, numbers, and logic. It helps us study, plan, and think clearly. EQ, or Emotional Quotient, is how smart we are with feelings, our own and other people’s. It helps us handle stress, understand others, and make better choices in relationships.
I once worked on a team project with a tight deadline. I was confident because I had all the technical knowledge. But halfway through, we ran into problems. People got frustrated and started blaming each other. I tried to fix it with logic, but it only made things worse. Then my teammate, who was calm and kind, spoke up. He didn’t blame anyone.
