Argentina’s Milei joins Trump in G20 boycott, snubs South Africa summit

Cape Town – Argentina’s president Javier Milei will reportedly skip the G20 summit in Johannesburg later this month, sending Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno and negotiator Federico Pinedo instead.
The move aligns Argentina with US President Donald Trump’s boycott over alleged human-rights abuses against Afrikaner farmers in South Africa.
According to IOL, while Argentina hasn’t issued an official statement, aides say the decision mirrors Washington’s stance.

Analysts see Milei’s absence as a diplomatic setback for South Africa, which is hosting the G20 for the first time on African soil, and as evidence of Argentina’s growing alignment with the US over traditional multilateral engagement.
Other world leaders, including Xi Jinping, Narendra Modi, and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, are confirmed to attend.
