Elizabedi gives Amakhosi the thumbs-up

Springbok rugby star Eben Etzebeth said he would support Kaizer Chiefs when it comes to South African football.

Speaking during an interview with Radio 2000, he admitted that he didn’t watch many local matches, but he said the Amakhosi would be his choice.

Although currently performing poorly in the DStv Premiership, where they are placed tenth and are on a streak of nine seasons without silverware, Kaizer Chiefs caught the attention of the rugby champion.

Etzebeth’s local connection initially leaned towards Ajax Cape Town, now known as Cape Town Spurs, as it is where he was born and raised.

The two-time Rugby World Cup champion also shared his long-standing support for Arsenal in the English Premier League.

During the recent Rugby World Cup, Etzebeth earned the nickname “Elizabedi” after a fan’s viral celebration of his winning try in the quarter-finals against host nation France.

The 32-year-old lock admitted the nickname has stuck and even players like Siya Kolisi have been heard calling him “Elizabedi.”
