Award-winning actor and traditionalist Wiseman Mncube said: "This means a lot. It's celebrating who we are and where we come from and respecting those who paved the way before us."

Sangoma and TV personality Mpho Wabadimo said the recognition of the day means there's a legacy for our ancestors in the book of history, a legacy for the next generation, and freedom for them to speak freely about ancestors.

"This day reminds us of where we come from as a people. However, It needs to be recognised on a bigger platform. It's important for everyone to know their roots. This is a bittersweet day, remembering those who came before us.

"I'm glad this day has finally come. I want it to be bigger and include the youth. It's our duty as influential people in this field to teach young people about our roots," she said.
