DA to boost Pappas’ campaign at KZN Easter services

DA leaders in KwaZulu-Natal are targeting Easter sermons in the province to revive the campaign of their premier candidate, Chris Pappas.

Pappas, who is popular with some KZN voters, has seen his star fading with the resurgence of former president Jacob Zuma, the leader of the uMkhonto Wesizwe party (MK), on the political landscape.

“The Democratic Alliance KwaZulu Natal premier candidate, along with members of the provincial leadership, will attend various community churches to take part in the Easter commemoration,” the party said.

Pappas denied that Zuma’s resurgence has weakened his popularity in the province.

“Zuma doesn’t give me sleepless nights. The man is old and I am not worried about him,” he said during the State of the Province address in the KZN legislature earlier this year.

Pappas recently described Zuma and MK as tenderpreneurs who suffered a big financial loss after the election of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

He said many South Africans had quickly forgotten the damage Zuma did to the country while he was president for nine years.

Pappas will be at Cornerstone Ministries International in Chatsworth on Good Friday while provincial leader Francois Rodgers will be at the NCF Church Midlands in Pietermaritzburg.

DA deputy provincial leader Sithembiso Ngema will worship at Cannon Ministries in uMlazi in Durban.

The party’s provincial chairperson, Dean Macpherson, will be at Jireh Assembly Ministries in Phoenix, and provincial management committee member Maliyakhe Shelembe will be at the Holy Ghost Apostolic Church in King Cetshwayo district.
