PSL rivals eye Kaizer Chiefs defender transfer

Kaizer Chiefs could be set to part ways with one of their defenders at the end of the season, with rivals interested in his services.

Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be ready to make some major changes to their playing staff next season.

Even though there have been names linked with a move to Chiefs, the club is also set to release some.

Players like Siyethemba Sithebe and Sifiso Hlanti have been mentioned, with their deals up soon. They have been joined by Happy Mashiane and Zitha Kwinika of late. One player that has been fighting those exit rumours at Chiefs is Njabulo Ngcobo. The centre back joined Amakhosi from Moroka Swallows, after winning defender of the season. Before putting pen to paper at the club, they fought of stern competition from Mamelodi Sundowns for his services. The club was able to clinch that deal through their good relationship with the Dube Birds.

Things have not quite gone according to plan for Ngcobo at Chiefs thus far, however. The player has not been a regular in the starting line up in his two-and-a-half years at Naturena. That has led to rumours that he would be sold by the club at the start of the current season. The signings of Given Msimango and Thatoayane Dithlokwe only made matters worse, but he decided to stay and fight. That seems to have paid dividends as he has managed to get the odd start here and there.

Even with that, there has still been no talk of Ngcobo even in talks with Chiefs over a new deal. Now according to The Citizen, AmaZulu are ready to take their former player back.

AmaZulu eye Chiefs star Ngcobo

“AmaZulu are very much interested in Njabulo (Ngcobo). He’s a home boy and as you know, he is a product of AmaZulu’s development academy. But besides that Njabulo is a very good player and can add value to AmaZulu. They are monitoring his situation at Chiefs, but at this stage, the club president doesn’t want to start a war with Chiefs by speaking to Ngcobo while he is contracted with Chiefs. So they’ll wait until the end of the season and if he has not signed a new deal with Chiefs, they’ll pounce on him”. Said the source.

It remains to be seen if Chiefs decide to renew Ngcobo’s contract or he joins AmaZulu.
