Loskop Dam (Mpumalanga)

A freshwater option that is sure to be any fishing fanatic’s dream location, Loskop Dam is an excellent option if you want to add a camping element to your trip. These lovely still waters are located in the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve, which is a beautiful green landscape filled with various outdoor activity options.

Whether you’re looking for hiking trails or bird-watching opportunities while fishing, this stunning location has something for everyone.

What fish you’ll find: Various carp, barbel, Blue Kurper, bass, etc.

Aston Lake (Gauteng)

A peaceful place away from the hustle and bustle of the urban setting, Aston Lake is a serene dam that will be a fruitful ground for your fishing adventure. Paying the angler fee will grant you entry, allowing you to fish in a safe and controlled space.

Aston Lake has an angler limit to ensure every angler gets ample space to cast their line in peace and without interference. Day visitors pay R50 per day, while those looking to purchase the overnight camping option pay R90 (this price is per angler).

What fish you’ll find: Catfish, bass, a variety of carp, etc.

Jacobsbaai

For a weekend getaway filled with fishing adventures, Jacobsbaai is the place to be. This beautiful spot offers a more open setting for casting your line. The Platflip, also known as flat rock, is a prime spot to reel in the famous kabeljou for which the Western Cape is renowned. You’ll have many choices to spoil yourself with seven bays to explore.

What fish you’ll find: Kabeljou, blacktail, steenbras, etc.
