‘I could coach Chiefs again’ – Ertugral

By Michael Madyira

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral says he “will always be there” for Amakhosi if the club needs his services.

The Soweto Giants are searching for a coach to replace Molefi Ntseki, who was fired in October last year.

Cavin Johnson is temporarily holding the coaching reins as the club looks for a new leader for the 2024-25 season.

But Ertugral has made himself available for a third stint at the club, having previously been in charge between 1999 and 2003 and then from 2007 to 2009.

“Chiefs is and will always be a club that I have a history with and will always be at the heart of our lives,” Ertugral told Scrolla.Africa.

“The president [Kaizer Motaung], Bobby [Motaung, the football manager] and, most importantly, the team behind the team have to build trust between each other whenever the technical team comes in.

“The president knows very well that if there is a need, I’ll always be there for the club. At present, I am very happy with what I am doing.”

Ertugral’s previous spells at Amakhosi did not result in major trophies, and now he is working with the Turkish Football Federation as a technical adviser.

His former club will end this season without any silverware, and their trophy drought has now extended to nine years.

Since Stuart Baxter guided them to the 2014-15 PSL title, several coaches have come to Naturena but failed to help the club win trophies.

Several coaches, including Pitso Mosimane, Roger de Sa, Vladimir Vermezovic, Alexandre Gallo, and former Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro, have been identified as possible future Amakhosi trainers.

De Sa and Vermezovic have expressed interest in the Chiefs job while Gallo and Peseiro have submitted their CVs.

Mosimane has not ruled out entertaining PSL offers although he is prioritising a national team role when he leaves Abha club.
