SA Fashion Week (SAFW) kicked off with a bustling rooftop at the Mall of Africa.
Designers, models, celebrities and fashion lovers alike gathered at the mall in Midrand to view the spring/summer fashion showcase from emerging and established designers.
Designers Thabo Makhetha, Mzukisi Mbane of Imprint ZA and Jacques Bam of The Bam Collective were some of the designers who showed bright and beautiful designs ahead of summer, using bright colours and breathable fabrics.
Imprint ZA designer Mzukisi showed a new collection on day one, making his debut at SAFW. On why he decided to showcase on this platform this season, he tells TRUELOVE, “ People know what Imprint is but now I want to focus on the business of fashion and I think, Lucille [Booysen] with SA Fashion Week, they do that very well.”
The New Talent Search shows by Mr Price kicked off the fashion week on day one. The upcoming designer who took home the prize was Cape Town-based Jessica-Ann Shepherd who founded the brand Oddity.
The winning collection featured vibrant pops of colour, chunky knits and muted tones to balance it all out. The fresh and vibrant design ensemble embodied a look that aligns with Mr Price's known fashion aesthetic.
On nurturing South African talent, head of buying at Mr Price Amber Jones says, “This season, the designers have woven their unique perspective, a strong focus on print and a sustainable ethos together to create something that we think is quite remarkable.”
Among the attendees at the shows were a sprinkle of famous faces. We spotted style star Blue Mbombo, actor and singer KB Motsilanyane, seasoned actor Jerry Mofokeng and his wife as well as TV presenter Kim Jayde.

Dressed by her favourite designer, Scalo – who did not showcase a collection this season – Blue shares what she enjoys about attending fashion week.
“Obviously, it’s the fashion, it’s the style,” she says. “I'm learning and that's why I love coming here. Like, there's always something to learn and there's always something new. So, ja, it's quite exciting.”
