POPULAR boxer and businessman Dingaan Thobela will be laid to rest on Thursday, 9 May.

The 57-year-old died on Monday, 29 April, at his flat in Joburg.

The funeral service will start in the morning and be held at Dlamini Multipurpose Hall in Soweto. Later today, Dingaan will be laid to rest at West Park Cemetry in Joburg.

On Monday, 29 April, the boxer was celebrated by his boxing colleagues and family during his memorial service. The memorial service was held at Hill on Empire, Empire Road, in Park Town, Joburg.  It was attended by former boxing stars and other local celebrities who have worked with him closely in the past years.

Dingaan Thobela Junior said his dad was so humble, and he taught them a lot about respect.

He said he changed many people's lives and looked after them as well. Junior said his dad played a huge role in their lives and ensured they had all that was needed by any child from their parents.

"We experienced love and support at home. We will miss our time with him as his children," he said.

Winnie Khumalo said all they wanted to do was celebrate him. She said he was a beautiful soul.

Bongane Thobela said his brother Dingaan always loved playing boxing. He said he was surprised when he managed to win different titles across the country.

"We used to travel and go out together. I am saying to everyone, let's learn how to love others," Bongane said.

He said their father ensured they had everything and taught them to stand independently. Bongane said this is the reason they managed to win against all odds.
